Matcha Ujiro: Japanese Ceremonial Matcha for a New Ritual in Israel
Matcha Ujiro was created with one simple idea: bring authentic Japanese ceremonial-grade matcha to Israel, without compromise. Our teas come from the famous regions of Uji and Kagoshima in Japan, and are shipped directly to our customers in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and all over the country. Every bowl, latte or iced drink you prepare with Matcha Ujiro is designed to taste exactly like the matcha served in modern cafés in Tokyo or Kyoto.
What Makes Ceremonial Matcha Different?
Not all matcha is the same. Ceremonial-grade matcha is made from the youngest, shade-grown tea leaves. They are steamed, dried and stone-ground into an ultra-fine powder. The result is a bright green color, a naturally sweet and umami-rich flavour, and a smooth texture with no bitterness when prepared correctly.
At Matcha Ujiro, we select teas that are:
- Shade-grown for at least 3–4 weeks before harvest
- Stone-milled in Japan into a very fine powder
- Tested for freshness and packed in airtight, light-proof tins
- 100% pure matcha – no sugars, flavors or additives
From Uji and Kagoshima to Tel Aviv
Our name, Matcha Ujiro, is a tribute to Uji – the historical heart of matcha culture in Japan – and to our mission of building a new community of matcha lovers in Israel. We work with trusted producers in Uji and Kagoshima who respect traditional farming methods while using modern quality controls.
Instead of buying random “green tea powder” online, Matcha Ujiro customers know exactly where their tea comes from, how it was grown and why it tastes so clean and vibrant.
Clean Energy, Calm Focus: Why Matcha Ujiro Feels Different
One of the reasons matcha has become so popular is its unique effect on the body and mind. Matcha Ujiro is naturally rich in:
- Caffeine, for gentle, long-lasting energy
- L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes calm focus and reduces jitters
- Antioxidants (EGCG), which support overall health and metabolism
- Chlorophyll, giving matcha its deep green color and detoxifying properties
Many of our customers switch from coffee to matcha because they want the energy boost without the crash. With Matcha Ujiro, you can start your day with a ritual that feels grounding, intentional and good for your body.
How to Recognize Quality Matcha
If you are new to matcha, choosing the right one can be confusing. Here are a few signs of high-quality matcha you will always find in Matcha Ujiro:
- Color: a bright, vivid green (not dull or yellowish)
- Texture: ultra-fine, almost like talc, with no visible grains
- Aroma: fresh, grassy, slightly sweet – never fishy or dusty
- Taste: smooth and umami-rich when whisked, not aggressively bitter
Low-quality matcha is often used for cooking or blended drinks with a lot of sugar. Matcha Ujiro focuses first on ceremonial matcha that you can drink pure, and then use in your favorite lattes, iced drinks or desserts.
How to Prepare Matcha Ujiro at Home
You don’t need a full Japanese tea ceremony set to enjoy high-quality matcha at home, but a few simple tools make a big difference:
- A small bowl or wide mug
- A bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small electric frother
- A fine sieve to sift the matcha
For a classic bowl of matcha:
- Sift 1–2 g of Matcha Ujiro into a bowl
- Add a small splash of water at 70–80°C and whisk until there are no lumps
- Add more warm water to reach your desired strength and whisk in a quick “W” motion until a fine foam appears
For a latte or iced drink, simply mix your matcha shot with milk or plant milk and ice. Many of our customers love experimenting with oat milk, almond milk or coconut milk to find their perfect daily drink.
Why Matcha Ujiro Is More Than Just a Drink
We see Matcha Ujiro as more than a product. It is a ritual, a small daily moment where you slow down, breathe and reconnect with yourself. Whether you drink it before work, after a yoga session or in the evening instead of another coffee, matcha can become a pillar of your wellness routine.
Our goal is to build a matcha community in Israel – people who care about quality, taste and a conscious lifestyle. Through our online shop, blog content and social media, we share recipes, tips and stories from both Japanese tea culture and modern city life in Tel Aviv.
